SRI LANKA (Our Island Home)
Srilanka is our island home.It lies in the Indian Ocean to the south of India.It is 445 kilometers from north to south,and 225 kilometers from east to west.Its total area is 65 000 square kilometers,and its population is around 20 million.
The central part of Sri Lanka is hilly and is called the low country .Many rivers take their rise from the central hills and flow to the sea through the coastal plains.
When we consider about the climate here .Its different from one part to another.The Hill country (including Nuwara Eliya and Bandarawela )has a cool healthy climate.It's rather same to UK climate.Because of that Nuwara Eliya is called "Little England".The low country in the south and west is warm and wet.Also the northern and Eastern parts of the island are warm and dry. It is a very rare opportunity to be able to experience all these climates in a one country. Especially in a such a small island.
The island is surrounded with the beautiful golden beaches,Also these beaches are blessed with the sunshine in 365 days of the year.The country is divided in into nine provinces each province has its own capital.Sri jayawardanapura is the capital of the srilanka and Colombo is the commercial capital.The international airport is at Katunayake.
We belong to different communities such as Sinhalese,Tamils,Muslims,Burghers,We follow different religions.
